The new gist and scans of the hardcopies are available here.

Why is this important?

  1. Discovery Bay does not have the infrastructure to support this development and our quality of life will suffer

    • Bus & ferry networks, sewerage & water systems, facilities & services such as schools, medical & emergency services, sporting facilities would all come under increased pressure with more traffic on DB roads, more crowded hiking trails

  2. Discovery Bay population would rise to 13% above the planned 25,000 population

  3. The population south of Discovery Bay Plaza would rise 38%, the population of Peninsula Village would rise 61%

    • This would mean a disproportionate population density increase south of the DB Plaza, significantly altering the living environment

    • According to Section 7.2 of Discovery Bay Explanatory Statement, any further increase in population above 25,000 people must maintain the unique sub-urban low density and car-free character of the development in keeping with the surrounding natural setting

  4. HKR have not considered existing residents in La Costa, Twilight, Jovial, Haven and Verdant Courts

    • The new developments would create a walled-building effect for residents on the lower floors of existing blocks. It would infringe on the privacy of many of the existing residents of these blocks. It would create new panoramic views of Nim Shue Wan by blocking the existing views of current residents

    • According to section 7.4 of the Discovery Bay Explanatory Statement “natural environment, physical landform, existing settlement, land status, availability of infrastructure” must be considered when re-zoning sites

  5. Construction work would greatly disrupt and endanger existing Peninsula Village residents

  • Residents living close to the development site during construction-work hours such as elderly residents, women and children, and pets would be exposed to additional heavy vehicle traffic in Discovery Bay, unhealthy fumes and dust particles, and disruptive noise pollution
